I now see why workers of the tech industry try their hardest to encourage people to learn how to code. It essentially gives one the opportunity to create something that does not yet exist. Taking a step back, one could really build anything they want with skills they know. One could use writing to create impactful stories, painting to produce powerful imagery, or coding to build applications.
The problem I see many people deal with is that they believe that there is enough capacity in their life to learn only one skill. I understand where they are coming from but at the same time, I feel as though it is a limiting belief. People thinking that they can only choose one thing they can do with their life, it’s similar to them thinking on a 2D level. When you draw a square, you can see that it has 1 face.

Now if you draw a cube, you can see that it has 6 faces. Tying it back to the subject, if you took a pen and wrote 1 word for each face on both shapes, there would be no more available faces on the square after the first word. Compared to the cube that still has 5 faces. I believe if people envisioned their lives 3-dimensionally instead of 2-dimensionally, they will see that they are more capable than they think!
Moving on, in my quest to be more creative, I watched a TED Talk from James Altucher, titled ‘Choose Yourself.’ One thing that really stood out to me was the idea that one should spend the next year, writing ten ideas each day. This would end up equating to 3600 ideas. The ideas don’t have to be “good” ideas, but they just have to be written down. This exercise is meant to train one’s ability to come up with new ideas. Just like one needing to train at the gym, in order to build muscles, one must also spend time building their creative muscles.
I think the exercise can be helpful but I can see how it can be used for someone to trick themselves into thinking they’re making progress. There are those that have a vision but rather than beginning the execution phase, they spend their time in the planning phase. Collecting resource after resource, deceiving themselves into thinking they are making progress. I can speak on this subject because I am guilty of doing this myself. I believe this happens because of the belief that at some point, they will just start working automatically, when that just isn’t the case. Anything worthwhile in life is going to require conscious effort. Even if it is as simple as creating but not releasing, one is still making progress forward.
As I age, I am able to see how many desires one has for themselves can be acquired through action. One just has to do the work and get better each day, even if it is by 1%. I will work to make my first post on @d3ol.art instagram. No excuses. Throughout this post, I had a chill vibe so that is what has inspired this post’s song. Here’s ‘Like this’ by Park Hye Jin.
