A First Post and Old Freinds

(Some cool graffiti with a red car making a special appearance, (D3OL 2023))

For those who may not have seen it, I have made my first post on Instagram! It was over a fashion show that one of the local universities was holding. What’s funny is that I was not even planning to take any footage of the event. Was just planning on showing up and enjoying the event. However, as I was walking to the event, I realized that I am holding all the equipment I need to start: A removable mic, a Sony ZVE-10, and an iPhone 11.

These thoughts are occurring as I am walking towards the fashion expo that was being held whilst the fashion show was being set up. I left the event because they said they were still setting up (I have a notorious habit of showing up early to events). I decided to leave because I finished everything I needed to do on campus, but to get to my car, I have to walk past the fashion show event.

I am about halfway to my car when I stop in place. I tell myself “If I don’t do it now, I won’t do it later.” and at the same time, another quote spoke to me as well. It asks readers “When was the last time you put 100% into something?” It seems a switch had flipped within me because I decided to answer the rhetorical question with action rather than words. So, I walked to the expo with my camera out, put my stuff down and got to work. Since this was the first time I wasn’t working with a theme or vision, I just started recording everything/everybody, hoping I will know what to do with it when it is time to edit.

Definitely do not regret going because the end product that was able to come from it gave me a really satisfying feeling, even though it took about 5 hours to do. A lesson I have learned was to always bring extra batteries. Started the show on 78%… It was by his grace that the camera didn’t die on me because I was cutting it way too close, but to showcase the final product, I will insert a link to the post below, just so you all can see what I was able to make.

I am not a gatekeeper, so I will be sharing all the software I used to create the post. I used DaVinci Resolve to edit the videos, Reaper to chop up Strike by Lil Yatchy (will attach the chopped version of the song at the end of the blog), and some free font analyser on the internet to match the font on the flyer. All of the software I listed can be obtained for free, which is a complaint many people have with getting into their hobbies/interests. There is always that sentiment of “this software costs x amount of money, I can’t afford that.”
While I understand those concerns, I feel as though people use this as an excuse not to start. They must realize they cannot expect the world to take them seriously, if they do not take themselves seriously. Time is a precious resource that cannot be regained, consider investing that time into yourself. As long as what you’re investing your time into is true to you, it can only make you a better individual.

During the fashion show, I meant two of my old high school friends. They both put out creative projects from time to time, and frequent events like this. A series of interactions occurred throughout the night and it was interesting comparing where we were in high school, compared to where we are at now. Whether it was keeping up with the same antics done in high school or bringing up things that happened during that time, it was interesting to see how we all have grown since then. Won’t go into too much detail because this isn’t TMZ or the Shade Room, I leave the messiness and drama to the professionals.

I look back to how I interacted with them back then and by doing so, I always realize I didn’t actually know what the definition of a friend was. They were more so “context friends”. Meaning we were only friends because we were in the same place (high school), or the same context for an extended period of time. I know other people have gone through something similar and hold grudges and I can see why. It’s easy to hold those kinds of feelings but it only works against you, not them. If they didn’t care about you or how they made you feel then, why would they care about your feelings now? For the sake of your mental health and wellbeing, forgive. It isn’t even for them, it is for you.

Today’s blog is going to be shorter compared to more previous posts. Need to pick up the pace again though because I have been slacking for real. However, I do want to announce that this is my 10th blog post! So I am very happy to see myself being consistent with an aspiration of mine. The song recommendation for today’s post is ‘A’int No Need to Worry’ by The Winans
