not to be confused with heart burn.
(An ablazen heart taken from an animation I made from Blender, 2024 D3OL)
It’s nighttime. If someone’s objective is to catch moths, wouldn’t they have an easier time catching them by letting a light shine and waiting for them to gather?
I believe everyone wants to find community in the world, but few people are willing to lower their guard and show their flame, their light, their burning desire.
Over the past month, I found myself at a few creative mixers. I met a variety of people, each with their own respective interests. Let me show you how the conversation would usually end up:
Me: “What type of art do you create?”
Them: “I do [insert a creative interest].”
Me: “That’s pretty cool! What are you working on at the moment?”
Them: “Oh, I haven’t made anything recently. Just haven’t found the time.”
They just haven’t found the time.
Each time I heard that phrase, the speaker never sounded confident in that answer. It was as if they even believe what they said.
I can imagine many of us have gone through the following cycle in some way or fashion:
- Remember personal interest
- Research what is necessary to start
- Acquire knowledge, equipment, and materials for interest
- Wait for the opportune moment
- Wait long enough to where the interest dies down
- See someone engaging in the same interest
- Feel the burning desire grow within whilst being upset for not starting
- Repeat
I am no expert, but I think the reason why people create mental handcuffs and lock themselves up is because they make fear stronger than what it is.
I can see some of the rebuttals to this point now. “It really isn’t that deep“ or “I don’t have time“, or “Bro’s the thought son“.
My questions are:
1) What if it was that deep?
2) What is your screen time?
Look. you know why it is you aren’t doing what you strongly desire. Just remember, it is your name on the birth certificate.
I can’t want it more than you.
Today’s blog post is a bit on the shorter end. There have been many developments in my life that needed more of my focus, but we are back. Maybe. Hopefully?
The recommendation for today’s post includes a song, podcast, and an activity (spicing things up today).
The song for today’s blog post is going to be the first song of the album this newsletter is based on.
I truly feel as though the intro encapsulates how people feel when they make a promise to themselves, but don’t show up to fulfill it.
We are listening to “Intro to Klein” by MIKE.
For the past couple of months, I’ve been listening to the One Take Wonder by Alexia. Her takes are pretty interesting to hear and she gives new perspective when talking about current culture topics.
I won’t go into too much detail, otherwise this newsletter is going to turn into a dissertation.
The activity I want you to try is to take a walk. Sounds easy enough, but here is the kicker. You cannot listen to any type of audio entertainment.
This walk is meant to be 30 minutes minimum.
“But what am I suppose to use that time for?” You ask.
If you are setting aside quality time to truly figure out who you are, and what makes you you, then how can you expect to find your community?
Just try it out. Worst case scenario, you broke a little sweat, and now you need to take a shower.
“But Daniel, I don’t have time to do that.” If I ask what your weekly screen time is, now I have to learn how to mind my business.
The world can only treat you as good as you treat yourself.
I will leave you with this post’s recommendations:
- Song: “Intro by Klein” by MIKE
- Podcast: One Take Wonder by h0tweirdg0rl
- Activity: Take a 30 minute walk without a source of audio entertainment.
